Frequently asked questions

There are a number of Driving Instructor training establishments, why should I choose you?

There are a number of reasons. Firstly experience, I have been in this industry for over 25 years, I have been an instructor, an instructor trainer, a senior manager for one of the biggest driving schools in the UK as well as working for one of the biggest driving instructor training companies. Secondly, I know this business very well and will not only guide you  through your training personally but will help you  after you have qualified to iron out any issues that may arise and also help you to be as profitable as possible. Thirdly, flexibility, I have carefully planned courses to suit most peoples requirements and commitments.

Why is your training considerably cheaper than some others?

Simple, I operate my business from home therefore I do not have expensive offices, glossy brochures and salesmen in suits. I also don’t spend enormous  amounts on advertising, therefore all these savings are passed onto you. Driving tuition is about teaching on the road, which is exactly what I do, your training will not involve days sat in a classroom, you will be where you need to be, in the car.

How easy is it to start work with an established school?

Very, very easy, the large national schools and also smaller local schools are continually looking to take on newly qualified instructors. I will personally help you approach them and find a placement that will suit your requirements.

I have never been self employed before, is there a lot of paperwork?

Being self employed is one of the really big advantages of been a driving instructor. Most self employed people would never want to go back to working for someone else! The records  you need to keep are straight forward and simple. I would then recommend you use an accountancy service to calculate your tax payments.

Is there any home study involved?

Yes, an amount of home study and preparation for your training sessions is required although I have designed the courses to keep this to a minimum.

I have a disability, can I qualify as a Driving Instructor?

Most definitely yes, providing you meet the basic legal requirements. I am one of the few instructor trainers who can offer any of my courses in an automatic vehicle if necessary.

What is a Trainee Licence?

A Trainee licence is intended to allow a person the opportunity to gain practical experience, and earn money, as an instructor prior to taking the Part 3 test. To have a trainee licence you must have passed the Part 1 and Part 2 tests and have done the training for Part 3. You must also work  ‘under the wing’ of an established driving school or qualified A.D.I.

Where are you based?

In North-East Leeds, in a very convenient easy to find location close to M1 junction 46. If you need accommodation there is a choice of Hotels in the area.
